PLACE: Town Hall

ABSENT: Marsha McKenna

OTHER CONTRIBUTORS:

POSTED: This meeting was posted at the Madison and Silver Lake Post Offices and at the Town Hall upstairs and downstairs on May 5, 2009

CALLED TO ORDER by Chair Dave Downs at 7:07pm

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: A motion was made by Mike seconded by Ruth to approve the minutes.  The motion was carried to approve the minutes with the following changes: None.

PUBLIC COMMENT: none

ITEM:  Schedule next meetings: Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at 10:00am, and Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 7:00pm, both at the Town Hall.

ITEM:  Review results of meeting with Road Agent and follow-ups.

DISCUSSION:

GLASS GRINDING: $20 per ton was estimated, but we need a more solid number.  We think we have 260 tons.  Adam Clarke returned email saying he contacted his grinder and would try to arrange for a meeting.  We need to give him a phone number.  Ray will give him the office number and then call Melissa and ask her to call Billy Chick to give a heads up.  When Adam Clark calls to make the appointment, the office will call Billy and Dave Downs.

BRICKS AND CERAMICS: Mike will contact Don Maurer at DES to get some ideas on this.

METAL: A roll off container would be too small so the current glass area would work well.  We still need to get the metal out of the bulky.  George Abbot takes the metal when called.  NRRA is another possibility, but their prices need to be confirmed.  We should just call the person who will give us the best deal at the time as the metal builds up.

ON SITE MACHINE: Billy thought it would be a good idea to have a small bucket loader there for many reasons.  Snow removal, brush and compost moving, compacting the roll offs, etc.  Ray should come up with an estimate of payback for getting a small bucket loader.

BRUSH AND YARD WASTE:

Billy comes down regularly to compact brush and flip yard waste.

Mike talked to NRRAs brush grinder.  It would be pricey, so keep pushing the brush back and separating the yard waste.  Perhaps cover a section of brush with a tarp later in the summer, then try burning again when it snows early rather than waiting until spring when it is ice covered and wet.

ITEM:   Discuss approach to getting the signs that we need.

DISCUSSION: Make our own or order from NH the Beautiful?

Fee Schedule sign needs to be made with the procedure for paying.

RECYCLING MESSAGES ON SIGNS:

This costs BLANK tax dollars to ship compared to MSW.

RECYCLING SAVES TAX DOLLARS!

ACTION: Ray fills out order form and runs it by Billy Chick who asks Melissa to process it.  The bold faced numbers were the ones we decided we should get first with our free sixty points.

PERSON RESPONSIBLE:

ITEM:    Where do we go from here?  Can we set more tasks or do we need to put together something for the Selectmen to get approval for next steps?

DISCUSSION: We should make an interim report to the selectmen, and seek feedback.  Right now we are trying to get the physical plant operating smoothly.  We might be recommending a small backhoe and grinding glass which would be a cost item.

ACTION AND PERSON RESPONSIBLE:

Dave will get a first draft out to us for feedback. Dave will contact Melissa to get on the agenda for June 30, 2009.

ITEM:   This item left as a final point to keep our group on course.
